Frequent Hoarseness and Phlegm? Acid Reflux May Be Ruining Your Voice

In modern medicine, acid reflux is commonly discussed in connection with digestive system disorders such as reflux esophagitis. In particular, when gastric acid flows backward into the esophagus and larynx, it can lead to reflux laryngitis, triggering hoarseness, frequent throat clearing, and sour regurgitation. Gastric acid is strongly acidic, irritating the laryngeal mucosa and causing inflammation. In particular, excessive acid persistently irritates the larynx and can provoke chronic inflammation, which readily leads to further complications. Modern medicine prescribes an acid suppressor to manage these symptoms or recommends lifestyle changes. Common recommendations include avoiding lying down right after eating and reducing intake of greasy foods and caffeine. Managing body weight can also help relieve symptoms by lowering intra-abdominal pressure.
