Cerebral Blood Vessel Warnings You Must Suspect When Speech Becomes Slurred

How does modern medicine interpret this warning from the Donguibogam? The symptom where speech becomes slurred is medically termed dysarthria, which occurs when a problem arises in specific areas of the brain, making it difficult to properly control the muscles required to produce speech sounds. An abnormality develops in the motor pathways that move the articulatory organs, such as the tongue, lips, jaw, and throat. Most critically, what we must never overlook is that this can be a precursor symptom of a transient ischemic attack, or mini-stroke. A transient ischemic attack occurs when a cerebral blood vessel is temporarily blocked and then reopens, causing a temporary impairment in brain function. Because symptoms disappear spontaneously within a few minutes to hours, it is easy to overlook them. However, statistics show that one-third of people who experience a transient ischemic attack suffer an actual stroke within months or years. Even temporary symptoms can be a warning that a serious issue has arisen in your cerebral blood vessels. What the Donguibogam calls disharmony between heart and kidney can be viewed in modern terms as a complex imbalance between the cardiovascular system and the nervous system. Chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking, and atrial fibrillation gradually damage cerebral blood vessels and impede cerebral blood flow, serving as primary causes leading to a transient ischemic attack or stroke. When arteriosclerosis progresses and cholesterol accumulates on the vascular wall, causing it to harden and narrow, small thrombus fragments can detach and block a cerebral blood vessel. In particular, if a cerebral blood flow problem occurs in the language centers of the brain, such as Broca's area and Wernicke's area, or the motor nerve pathways governing articulatory muscles, slurred speech appears. If you suddenly develop slurred speech, no matter how briefly it passes, visiting a hospital immediately to undergo thorough evaluations is essential. Missing the critical window can lead to permanent brain injury. Our body never lies. Paying attention to small signals and responding promptly is the wisest way to protect your long-term health.
