Skin Still Dry No Matter What You Apply? How Water Can Hydrate the Skin

The Donguibogam's concept of body fluids aligns closely with modern understanding of fluid metabolism and cellular hydration balance. Even when the skin appears smooth on the surface, its cells must hold adequate water to sustain proper skin barrier function and retain elasticity. In the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis, lipids such as ceramides and fatty acids pack tightly like mortar between bricks to form the skin barrier. This barrier defends against external irritants and prevents internal moisture from evaporating. When the body runs low on water, this skin barrier weakens, and microscopic gaps allow moisture to escape easily. This explains the persistent sensation of inner dryness that remains despite using rich hydrating creams. Every cell in the body depends on water, and skin cells are no exception. Proper hydration promotes healthy microcirculation, delivers essential nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, and supports the efficient clearance of metabolic waste. In particular, fibroblasts that produce collagen and elastin lose functional efficiency when dehydrated, leading to reduced skin elasticity and deeper fine lines. The dull texture and slack tone you notice may not be caused by aging alone. Adequate water intake is also indispensable for thermoregulation and general metabolism. When internal metabolic processes operate smoothly, the skin renewal cycle proceeds on schedule, allowing fresh cells to emerge regularly. Research into the gut-skin axis also highlights the connection between gut health and skin condition. Sufficient hydration supports a balanced intestinal environment, which helps manage skin inflammation and regulate moisture levels. Drinking water at an appropriate temperature consistently throughout the day provides the foundation for resilient, hydrated skin.
